How to Protect Your Hair from Heat

Hair dryers, straighteners, and curling irons are part of daily routines. But constant heat damages hair structure, making it fragile and dull. Don't panic: with the right precautions, you can use heat tools without compromising the health of your hair.

Heat protection is not optional — it's the first step to keeping your hair strong, shiny, and healthy even if you style it every day. Here are 4 tips to always follow.

The 4 Essential Tips

1
Always apply a heat protectant
Before using a hair dryer, straightener, or curling iron, always apply a heat protectant — spray, cream, or oil. It creates a barrier that limits damage caused by high temperatures.
Never skip this step, even if you're in a hurry.
2
Avoid excessively high temperatures
Set your hair dryer and straightener to a medium temperature: 150-180°C is enough to get results without burning your hair. Higher temperatures don't mean better results — only more damage.
If your straightener has temperature control, always use it.
3
Dry your hair thoroughly before straightening
Using heat tools on still damp hair makes it more fragile and prone to breakage. Always dry your hair completely with a hairdryer before using a straightener or curling iron.
Heat on wet hair vaporizes the water inside the hair shaft — damaging it from within.
4
Don't use heat every day
Alternate with natural hairstyles or let your hair air dry: this will give it time to recover and stay healthy longer. If possible, limit hair dryer and straightener use to 2-3 times a week.
Hair needs breaks to regenerate.

Remember: Heat protection doesn't repair existing damage — it prevents future damage. If your hair is already damaged, combine protection with specific restructuring treatments.
